Meet our youngest donor!

 “Kids need to know that little things added up together can make a big difference,” says Ali, The Future of Life’s youngest donor and a 6th grader from Pennsylvania.

Meet Ali – entrepreneur, jeweler, philanthropist and … 6th grader, at a Middle School in Pennsylvania. The 12-year-old has become The Future of Life’s youngest contributor after conceptualizing her own business plan and selecting FOL to benefit – a shining example of young people in action.

After reading an article on global warming in Time magazine, Ali was inspired to act on concerns she’s long had about the environment for a school project.  Her goal – to create a small business and donate the revenue to an organization working to stop global warming.  She selected The Future of Life for its special focus on educating kids about the environment.  “Everybody should try to help because we want to keep the Earth strong,” says Ali, “A lot of people should contribute and we can maybe turn it around.”

Ali combined her passion for the environment with her love of jewelry making – she designed and crafted pairs of glass bead and wire earrings for friends and family and sold them for $5 a pair.  Her business raised $75 which she generously donated to The Future of Life.

Ali also contributed some valuable advice to her charity of choice to make sure they continue to effectively reach out to kids like her and inspire them into action.  “[Hold] assemblies at school,” she says, “Kids need to know that little things added up together can make a big difference.”

“They should understand that [the earth] is fragile,” she continues, “We should be careful about what we do.”
